Welcome! I write historical fiction fantasy novels about the ancient Celts in Scotland and Ireland. My books are a mix of romance, the adventures of battles and swordfights, and the mysticism and magic of the Celts. I studied archaeology, so they are also based on historical research.

NEW LAUNCH! My latest book The Raven Queen - an exciting novel about the famous Irish mythic queen Maeve - was released on February 22. Here's what is happening in terms of press and giveaways:
April 10 - You can listen to the archive of my radio interview on ISIS Paranormal Radio here. I talk about the Irish and Scots mythology in my books, and a lot about the spiritual aspects of my writing, as well.
March 17 - My first radio interview for The Raven Queen, on Sedona Talk Radio. It is the Flash of Spirit show, and archived here
March 1 - got my first review on daytime TV! On the CBS affiliate (TVF) "Talk of the Town" television show The Raven Queen was reviewed by The BookMan/BookWoman, who said: "We both love Celtic mythology and were thrilled to discover Jules Watson. Her Dalraida trilogy was fabulous and The Raven Queen is her very best. Watson reminds us of another great story teller, Jean Auel."
Tuesday March 1: Bantam Spectra's site suvudu.com has posted an interview with me. They are also giving away signed copies of The Raven Queen and my previous book The Swan Maiden.
Monday Feb 28: I have contributed a guest post to the well-known writers' site Writer Unboxed. It is about making sure you give your characters the right motivations, so their behavior does not frustrate readers!
Friday Feb 25: Bantam Spectra's site suvudu.com has the first 50 pages of The Raven Queen posted for free as part of their "50 Page Fridays" promotion.
Tuesday Feb 22: I have been given a spotlight interview as a Top Pick on the Romantic Times website, on the sci-fi / fantasy page. RT also posted an excerpt from the book here
Mon Feb 21: A new interview with me has been posted on the blog Passage to the Past. The blogger, Amy Bruno, is also running a signed book giveaway, so hop on over and enter by leaving a comment.Other blog interviews and a couple of radio interviews will also be posted here as they are scheduled.
I am very pleased at the first review, from Romantic Times: "Fans of Watson's previous volume of fictionalized Irish mythology The Swan Maiden will love this - it's even better! Once again Watson brings Irish lore to life with characters and issues that resonate with contemporary readers. Don't miss this one, it's a keeper." Phew, I can breathe out now!
The Raven Queen is a stand alone story, though its plot and some characters are interwoven with my previous book The Swan Maiden, about Deirdre of the Sorrows - the ancient Irish "Helen of Troy".
My first series - The Dalriada Trilogy - is about the Scottish tribes resisting the Roman invasions of Scotland around 80 AD.
This site is a window to me, so I’ve tried to share the things that have inspired me, including the history behind the books, the myths, the landscape, my interest in Celtic spirituality and psychology. There is also encouragement for aspiring writers. Read as much or as little as you want!
"Wonderful. Watson does not tell the
story, she lives it.
Mystical and poetic, a tour de force.
A magical and compelling recreation of the lost Celtic world." -
